Combating ill-treatment in India

MDAC was a co-trainer at a seminar in New Delhi, India, 26-27 November 2011. The seminar brought together thirty activists and lawyers from around India, as well as participants from Nepal and Sri Lanka. Participants discussed examples of discriminatory ill-treatment against persons with disabilities, and how to prevent and remedy such abuse. Examples which arose included the forced administration of electro-shock in its unmodified form (without anaesthesia or muscle relaxants), sexual abuse of girls and women with disabilities, and discrimination in justice systems.

MDAC is a partner in the project which is coordinated by the Equal Rights Trust in London, and the Human Rights Law Network in India.
