5(E). How can I get my client community-based services so that they can leave the institution?

English

Access to adequate housing and other community-based services are crucial for people to effectively live in the community. Clients need immediate access to such services in order to leave the institution in practice or in order to continue living in the community and avoid being sent to an institution. A lack of housing is an easy excuse for local governments to justify continued institutionalisation. An assertive legal strategy is needed in such situations. In addition, lawyers litigating cases should take steps to ensure that their clients have housing in place when they leave an institution.
