Tesfahun Terrefe

I am Tesfahun Terrefe, LL.M, Human Rights student at the Central European University (2010/2011).

I had been an intern with Mental Disability and Advocacy Center (MDAC). During my stay with the organization I had a chance to know the human rights violations that people with mental disability are facing in a society and psychiatric institutions, especially in Eastern and Central Europe and had a practical knowledge on how to deal with the violations. To this end, for instance I had a chance to attend the MDAC staff meeting to discuss the Stanev vs Bulgaria case, which is filed by MDAC and pending before the European Human Rights Court at the moment.

Beside I had carried out:

  • Research on Human Rights litigation and litigators in Ethiopia, Zambia and Ghana
  • Research on the national implementation of the CRPD in Ethiopia and Zambia based on steps taken in these countries to set up article 33 bodies
  • Research on  disabled people organizations in Ghana and provide their contact information
  • In addition, I had been taking part in various consultative meeting  with the MDAC staff.
