How we make a difference

We are the only international NGO in the world focused on the rights of people with mental health issues and people with intellectual disabilities. We are experts in achieving ground-breaking legal judgments in courts in various countries and in international tribunals like the European Court of Human Rights (our Executive Director co-wrote a book on how to do this). Our strategic litigation targets the most serious human rights violations and finds clients who are emblematic of many similarly-situated people: we therefore spend the least amount of money to achieve maximum social change.

We analyse complicated laws and work with grassroots NGOs to demand governments take steps to better protect people’s rights. We develop international advocacy strategies, using UN and European bodies to create sustainable change in people’s lives. And we have developed training packages for lawyers, NGOs on how to do legal advocacy, and for people with disabilities themselves to become agents of their own change.

We are seeking support from a range of Trusts and Foundations. To have a conversation about MDAC’s plans please contact Oliver Lewis our Executive Director oliver@mdac.org.
