Indicator 2(D): Is support available to families of people with mental disabilities? Examples include benefits, remuneration of family members for providing personal assistance, and day care.

English

Conclusion:
Respite services and contribution to care (see Indicator 2(A)) can support family members of people with disabilities.

Explanation:

Respite services include outreach, outpatient or residential services to people with reduced self-sufficiency who are assessed as otherwise being able to live in their natural social environment.[40] The aim of these services is to provide rest for those who provide care, mostly to family members. Respite services are provided for a fee. ‘Contribution to care’ is intended to help people with disabilities pay for services they need in order to live in the community. Using it as remuneration for care provided by family members mean that it often becomes part of a family budget, and can result in isolation for people with mental disabilities.
